Soaking your shower curtain in salt water before hanging it up will help retard mildew.

Mineral and mildew stains on your shower curtain aren’t as impossible to remove as most people think. First, soak the curtain in salt water for 15 to 20 minutes, then hang to remove excess water. While the curtain is still damp, rub the stains with lemon juice.

For continuous, low-cost air freshening, buy a small bottle of wintergreen oil at the drugstore, place a few drops on a cotton pad or ball, and tuck out of sight in a corner, drawer, or medicine cabinet.
